Live observation of a Great Tit nesting box
Stream coming soon
The Great Tit is one of Portugal's most charismatic and recognizable birds. With its vivid yellow breast, black head and immaculate white cheeks, it's a frequent visitor to gardens and orchards. It eagerly nests in handmade nest boxes, making it the perfect protagonist of this live observation.
Handcrafted from pine wood, with an integrated IP camera and infrared night vision. Installed in an oak tree, somewhere in Portugal.
This project is a real-world application of ICT — from network and IP camera setup, to Linux server programming, real-time video streaming via FFmpeg, and website creation. Technology in the service of nature and learning.
A family project made with love. It grew from a school idea — a multidisciplinary approach bringing together the handcrafted construction of the nest box, the technological implementation of streaming, and the study of our first resident, the Great Tit.
Just 19 days after the first chicks flew away, the female returned and began reinforcing the nest with fresh moss and fine fibres for a new clutch.
The female laid 5 eggs between June 3rd and 5th — one per day. By June 5th the clutch was complete.
The female incubates the eggs while the male brings food regularly. Hatching expected around June 19-21.
We're waiting for the 5 new chicks to hatch! Watch the live stream so you don't miss the moment!
If all goes as in Season 1, the chicks will fly about 19 days after hatching!
5 eggs, 5 chicks, 5 first flights! Season 1 was a complete success. Relive all the moments.
