The Project

Built by hand, broadcast to the world

01
The Nest Box

Handcrafted from pine wood, with an integrated IP camera and infrared night vision. Installed in a tree, somewhere in Portugal.

02
ICT & Technology

This project is a real-world application of ICT — from network and IP camera setup, to Linux server programming, real-time video streaming via FFmpeg, and website creation. Technology in the service of nature and learning.

03
The Family

A family project made with love. It grew from a school idea — a multidisciplinary approach bringing together the handcrafted construction of the nest box, the technological implementation of streaming, and the study of our first resident, the Great Tit.

Nesting Cycle

What you'll witness live

🪺
Phase 1 · April
Nest Building

The female brings moss, grass and feathers to build the nest inside the box. A delicate and fascinating process.

🥚
Phase 2 · April/May
Egg Laying

The female lays 6 to 11 eggs, one per day. The eggs are white with small reddish spots.

🔥
Phase 3 · ≈14 days
Incubation

The female incubates the eggs for about 14 days. The male regularly brings food to the nest.

🐣
Phase 4 · Hatching
Chicks Hatching

The most emotional moment! Chicks hatch blind and featherless, completely dependent on their parents.

✈️
Phase 5 · ≈21 days
First Flight

After about 3 weeks, the chicks are ready to fly and leave the nest forever.
